my husband said that this shack is so ugly that it is almost pretty. oh by the way, that shack was mine but was recently renovated.
how can the guy sleep on the top and not fall off?
it is just me posing for my husband.
poor but happy and not a trace of fat in their body.
the prolific fishing village in Baras, Catanduanes.
a typical probinsiyana little girl in Catanduanes. i promised to send this picture to her by mail but i thought i would personally hand a framed 4 by 6 picture to her when i take my vacation again. she should be tickled pink.
beautiful rice terraces in San Miguel, Baras, Catanduanes where the little girl above resides.
Dororian falls located in Dororian, Gigmoto, Catanduanes.
my SIL carried me piggy back to the other side to avail of the spring water. i was trying to keep my upper body dry because i was nursing a cold but i fell off anyway and got all wet, geeeessssh!

Virac market.
Mother and son relaxing on the beach ( my SIL and nephew)
wouldn’t it be nice if someone is kind enough to help this smart cute little girl out of poverty by supporting her through school?
if only her eyes are open, this photo would have been worth framing too.
Beautiful Puraran beach.

nice pics. the sleeping guy on top of the jeepney must’ve had a long day from work …. or maybe he’s drunk.
Beautiful beautiful pictures, Belle! They make me want to go over there right now and just relish the landscape in person
Thanks for sharing.
i didn’t know that catanduanes has rice terraces? wow, our country really has a lot to offer and can surprise even the locals, andami ko pa talagang di nararating sa pilipinas!
Ang ganda!! I’ve always wanted to visit Catanduanes, Masbate, and Bicol. My Mom is, btw, a Bicolana from Nabua. The last pic is just too beautiful for words
wil, thanks! you are probably right but i wonder what is keeping him from falling off? gin or coconut wine?
eric, that is a huge compliment from a known photographer like you. thank you! i will do better each time. the only problem there is the road and transportation are primitive.
zherwin, there are several little rice terraces in catanduanes. punta kayo doon ni senor enrique pag uwi ko para may guide kayo…hehe.
Kongkong, thanks! so you are half bikolana pala. that last picture is within walking distace from my little hut.
WOW nice mini rice terraces…igwa paran kaan sato. My youngest sister is currently assigned in San Miguel Elementary School in Baras, class adviser siya ng grade 2 or 3 ata …marinas man palan na lugar and it seems peaceful man. Kaya lang grabe daa ang pagtios lalo na after the typhoon reming and recently lang nagkaigwang landslide, hardest hit ang Baras 5 ang nagadan ta natabunan ning landslide so harong.
Your hometown is so beautiful, belle. And I love the rice terraces. And I also like how the people are happy. They may be poor in terms of money but I’m sure they are rich in other aspects of life. Just look at the surroundings, for instance.
The Virac Market reminds me of my happy childhood. Do you know that we lived in mini-store nung masunugan kami. Life that time was so simple yet ang hirap. Pero sa awa, ok naman kami. Nagtinda ako dyan nin kamatis, limon, bawang buda sibuyas na niripak. My mother Kathleen used to be the “popular” one -sya ang Reyna ng Palengke, ngayon naka MANGO brand na sya, pero people still adores her.
I don’t mind going back to the same life at sumigaw araw araw ng “SIBUYAS KAMATIS BAWANG”.
nice landscapes. never been to catanduanes. such rustic and peaceful place
Bea, iyo, we have rice terraces back home, in fact, we have one in my village. hayaan mo, when i go home, i will pay your sister a visit in san miguel. piga hike ko sana iyan from my house. yes, life is hard there even before typhoon reming but somehow, they survive. look at how healthy the little girl, she was eating tubo ng niyog when i saw her…best snack you can give to a child because it is pack of nutrients and has no added preservatives.
niceheart, thanks! i can’t wait to go back again. that particular couple seem to get along good.
K, i bet it was fun to hang out in palengke and earn money at the same time. ako naman, i made sinilapid every night for our food and transportation allowance.
You have a beautiful hometown Belle. Nice pics!
I know what it means … to see something so ugly it’s almost pretty. That’s why some of Van Gogh’s pictures of coal mines and coalminers are beautiful. That’s why really old people are somehow so photogenic. I love the scenes from Catanduanes. Makes me want to visit too … while I am still in this incarnation.
Beautiful. You’ve captured the simplicity, the heartbreak and the beauty of probinsya living.
Hi Ate Belle,
I like your rivers at Catanduanes! Beautiful photos as always!
joyjoy, dororian falls and nahulugan falls are not the same. dororian falls is closer and is accessible by car.
MoM, thanks!
Anna, want to come with me to my place?
pinayhekmi, thanks for the visit. i love simple, rustic life.
KK, i like the rivers, too, clean and refreshing.
Beautiful landscape and great scenery. Thanks for sharing a glimpse of how beautiful Catanduanes is especially for people like me who haven’t been there before.
