Cooper Tire Blowout…number 2
Posted by Belle on 21 Jun 2007 at 09:46 pm | Tagged as: freeway incident
Last Wednesday, we fetched Tepsie at the airport. We drove the van to Phoenix the second time since the last tire-blow-out episode. I insisted that we drive the other car because I didn’t feel safe in the van after the last incident but my husband thought that the truck was too cramped for us four, so was Lexie’s car. Therefore, we had no other choice but to drive the van.
I was praying hard that nothing would happen on our drive to and from Phoenix. My husband was driving cautiously a little below the speed limit. Fortunately, we made it to the Valley safe and unharmed. We deliberately drove to the airport half an hour late for Tepsie’s scheduled arrival so we didn’t have to wait long for her. It turned out that the plane arrived half an hour early so she waited in the baggage claim area for some time, worried that something bad might have happened on us.
When she saw Lexie and me coming, she was so happy and excited.
From the airport, we went to order some food for Tepsie at Best of Hongkong Dining in Phoenix. She was insanely hungry!
Then we proceeded home. We were going downhill on Beeline Highway driving at a speed below the speed limit, and all three of us tuned in to music, when I heard a big thump. Oh my, I couldn’t believe it was happening again. We had another tire blowout and this time it was the front tire. I was terrified and in disbelief! Our van started careening from side to side. My husband yelled, “Hang on! Hang on! There was a big drop off to our left, I thought for a moment, we would end up down the ravine, but my husband managed to maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder. And lucky, there weren’t any cars close to us when this happened or there could have been a collision.
The three of us; S, Tepsie, and me came out of the vehicle and stood dumbfounded at the sight of the vehicle. “This is not supposed to happen again,” I remarked. We just had a tire blowout three weeks ago. Were the tires installed in our van defective? Something is wrong. At that instant, my husband thought of suing the company. Hey, my whole family could have been killed, why not?
My husband started changing the tire with lots of help from Tepsie, while I was flagging some kind of colorful cloth to caution the motorists to slow down. Our car barely fit the shoulder of the highway. It did the trick! Most motorists got the message and moved to the left lane to give us more room. Suddenly, a guy driving a slow moving van stopped and offered help. Although we already got everything under control, we accepted his offer and let him help us. He hauled the wrecked tire into the back of our vehicle. Once he noticed that he was not needed anymore, he got in his car and continued on his journey. We thanked him for his act of kindness.
The following day, we brought the van to the dealer, and demanded a set of upgraded tires from a different brand. They didn’t give us a hard time and agreed to our wishes as if they knew what was going on. We also asked that we are compensated for the damages our van sustained. Unfortunately, this will take a little time and will require heaps of paperwork.
Fortunately, our four tires are brand new again; unfortunately, I have to drive the van around town in such an embarrassing condition for who knows how long. People will probably think that I am some kind of reckless driver. Yesterday, I showed the damages to a friend of mine at work. She was shocked to see it! I explained to her what happened. She suggested that I look the cooper tire up on the internet because she thought that there might be a lawsuit against them. Brilliant idea!
I didn’t realize there were lawsuits after lawsuits against Cooper Tires. http://www.onlinelawyersource.com/cooper_tires/problems.html

oh! thank God you guys are alright. The first time you blogged about it, it was pretty scary. So there’s a lawsuit…oh well hopefully they will pay in case there’s really negligence on the part of the company. These should have gone through a thorough QC/QA. Anyway I am just happy that you arrived home safe and sound
Thank God you all are safe. I had goosebumps reading about your experience,
There should be a recall from Cooper Tires to get all the bad tires of the market, they are endangering people’s lives. I hope you get your van fixed at their cost.
I forgot to say that you have captured a wonderful smile from Tepsie. She’s gorgeous!
Belle, isn’t this the second time? Buti naman you guys are alright. Sa Virac, I travelled by trycicle going around poblacion or kahit sa beach. Looking at those flat-tires, talagang yaw kong magkaroon ng sasakyan ang mag drive.
It’s been a while and I’m back with hung over. Masilam talaga so latik. I met this person sa McDo in MNL na taga satuya man, (I forgot her name) is our avid readers. She approached me and recognized me, “biga basa ko ang blog nyo ni Belle”. I also learned kilala pala sya ng sister ko.
Belle, popular ka talaga!
So are cooper tires on the van right now? Perhaps change the brand asap even though they’re brand new? If a blowout happens once, it’s bad luck. but if it happens twice, there’s probably more to it than just bad luck.
salamat man ta okay man kamo. su enotan pa nman na gulong kya mas delikado.
pista baga tita belle sa aga sa bato. dai ka mangimbitar? hehehe
Oh my gosh, belle! There must really be something wrong with the tires…It’s a good thing the tire dealer was not difficult. Buti nalang your husband has been blessed with presence of mind.

i like your blog’s new look, btw. it love nature and green too.
Things like this that happen give more meaning to the phrase “take care”. Please do take care
Belle, pwede maki-fiesta? Plano mi kuta mapunta sa Bato diyan kila Juan Rudolfo kaso napalpak so bookings kan ticket pa-HK. Dacul sana akong mapuntahan diyan pati na sa inyo hehehe. happy fiesta.
Unbelievable! Thank goodness you are all okay.
Thanks God everyone of you is alright! Be safe always and Take Care tita Belle!!!
verns, thanks. am hoping we get compensated for the damages of the van.
KK, exactly what I said. the least that the dealer can do is to undertake a product recall. i don’t think we were informed the fact the we live within a mile only. thanks for the nice comments on Tepsie.
K, welcome back. you didn’t stay very long in the province. did you bring me some pasalubong?
i actually don’t like driving long distances. asaka ko ang nag mamaneho for long trips.
really, popular tayong dalawa? naks naman! it is nice to know marami tayong fans sa probinsiya.
wil, yes, they gave us upgraded non-cooper tires and of better quality {daw)
joyjoy, it was awful scary! i cringed at the thought of it. i am not from Bato, am from a barrio in Bato so our fiesta falls in May.
k, you should have extended your vacation longer. sayang! i know Juan Rodulfo. pero bako ako mismo na taga Bato, tubong barrio tabi ako.
auee, thanks. it will take me a while to drive that van again on the highway.
dimpz, thanks. Lexie said, “am getting used to the tire popping out.” please take care, too.
Unbelievable! In your other post, I recall how scared the whole experience was. Now to relieve all of that the next time around…thank goodness you guys are alright.
Btw, I see that you’ve changed your template again. Cool design! I like the green color, too.
Thank goodness you’re all right and nobody was hurt.
I should really print this post and the other one and let my husband read them. We’re planning on going to Edmonton, Alberta, 14 hours drive from here in Winnipeg, in a couple of weeks. And I think it’s good to know what to do just in case it happens to us.
Hi…Ako po yong piga mention ni K na avid reader ng BLOGS niyo and also the BLOGS of Ms. Dine Racoma. Sorry for invading your privacy…kaya lang di ko talaga mapugol sadili ko na dai silipin ang mga post niyo, kadakul akong napulot na adal sa pagbasa kaini.

Kathy, to tell you the truth, am scared to drive that van on long distances even with brand new tires.
re:new blog design, thanks. the last one was pretty, too, but i had trouble reading the words; too small, and too dark.
niceheart, by all means, please do, something all drivers should know. good luck on your trip to Edmonton.
Bea, hey, thanks for gracing my site. you don’t know how happy i am that you finally made your presence felt. thanks kabayan!
Dine is a good friend, and a kind, and loving person. am so blessed to have been bestowed of such friendship.
am hoping you get your internet connection in Dasma., Cavite soon so our tribe grows bigger, di ba K?
I hope that will be your last experience for such kind of incident (and any other road incident for that matter). Blown up tires is just a very very dangerous situation…
